What is the datacenter proxy tier?+
A rotating pool of US datacenter IPv4 addresses on your PrivateByte proxy balance. Each new connection leaves from a different address. It costs $0.75 per GB.
How do I use it?+
Use your API key as the proxy username and datacenter as the password, with proxy.privatebyte.com on port 3128 for HTTP and HTTPS or 1080 for SOCKS5.
Does every request get a new IP?+
Every new connection does. A client that reuses one connection keeps one address until it closes. Python requests, httpx, Node, Go and cURL all behave this way; the rotating proxy guide shows how to get a new IP in each.
Which countries can I use?+
US only during the beta.
Can I keep the same IP across several requests?+
Not on this tier, which rotates only. Reuse one connection for a steady address, or use a session tier such as Standard for a timed session.
How is it billed?+
Per GB, from the same balance as every other tier. Traffic in both directions plus a small per-connection overhead is metered. Credit never expires.
What does a request cost?+
A new HTTPS connection to a tiny page measured about 4.4 KB in our test. A request on an open connection measured about 190 bytes. The calculator works out your total.
Is SOCKS5 supported?+
Yes, on port 1080. It carries TCP only, with no UDP.
Will it work on every website?+
No. Strict sites can recognise datacenter addresses. In our test of 12 sites it was blocked by Zillow and the New York Times and served on most of the rest. A screened residential tier suits stricter targets.
What happens if I misspell the tier?+
A close misspelling such as datacentre returns a 400 error that names the tier, so you are not billed on the wrong one. A password that is not close to any tier uses your account’s default tier.
Can I change tiers without a new key?+
Yes. Change the password. All tiers share one balance and one key.
Still unsure?
Try it on a small balance and switch back by changing the password.
